- wood chips are very light (0.2 - 0.4 ton/M3) and are relative easy to grab;
- pig iron is very heavy (3.0 - 3.5 ton/M3) and can be quite hard on the scales;
- blocks of granite are very abrasive and can cause extreme wear on the scale points.
